Oct. 20th/21st - Killarney Provincial Park

We spent most of the 20th in Sudbury, ON. Sudbury is a small city filled with strip malls, but we did find a few cool things to entertain ourselves on the rainy day we spent there. There is a science museum, called Science North, with an IMAX and a planetarium. We also happened to find a pretty cool little restaurant downtown called The Laughing Buddha. The Laughing Buddha has an extensive bottled beer list and a mostly vegetarian menu(which is nice because Morgan doesn't eat meats that aren't fish/seafood). This was very refreshing to see after many days of slim food and beer options. Here we were able to try some delicious Canadian microbrews and eat sweet potato fries, deep fried pickles, curry chickpea salad, and an artichoke tomato grilled cheese.
Stomachs and palates pleased, we headed on down the road to Killarney. As mentioned earlier, we were so excited for beautiful scenery and showers at Killarney... unfortunately all of the campground showers were closed. So, we continue to be smelly. But, we are still happy that we got to see lots of beautiful scenery. We did two of the hikes at Killarney. The first, Cranberry Bog, took us on a loop through wetlands around a couple different lakes. There was a group of high school students on this same hike that thought it was amusing to call Morgan 'Into the Wild' and made comments on his beard from a distance. It seems as though the high schooler complex is a multi-national condition, afflicting the majority of 15-18 year old males.
The next was a hike to 'The Crack'. This was a more difficult hike up (and back down) steep rocky slopes that led us to the top of quartzite granite mountains looking out over glassy lakes and colorful forests. Many famous Canadian painters became known from painting the breathtaking area contained in the park's boundaries. We both agreed that we will be coming back to this area in the future during warmer months to do some kayaking or canoeing.
Between the two hikes we made it into the small marina village of Killarney. It is a picturesque town that completely shuts down October-March. We went on a bit of a wild goose chase to find some gas in the small town. We ended up finding a couple of construction workers that directed us to the one convenient store open which had a gas pump near docks of the marina, where we filled up our tank.
That evening we made a delicious meal and Morgan started a nice campfire. So we sat outside eating our pasta, drinking wine, and enjoying another beautiful sunset. We have seen so many. It was that same day that we were discussing how we had been so lucky to see so many great sunsets. Not sure if it is that we actually have the time to enjoy them now, or if the sunsets have really been that much better than back home.
After dinner we enjoyed the campfire and took goofy pictures to entertain ourselves for a little bit. Once bored with that we put the fire out and hopped into bed - in the car. Yep. We were too lazy to put up the tent. Plus, we have made the Pr(V)ius pretty comfortable.
