Nov. 4th-5th - Maine-ly things in Acadia.

Friday, we awoke at a rest stop nine miles out side of Bangor, Maine (the pronunciation is apparently Ban-Gore) and preceded to head towards Acadia National Park. On the way we stopped in Ellsworth which was nice little town and had a vegetarian-friendly restaurant called the Riverside Cafe with fantastic breakfast specials and what looked like amazing homemade desserts. We split a Spinach Feta Scrambler with homefries and French Toast with a pile of raspberries draped over it.

After we continued on and made it into the park around one thirty in the afternoon and cruised around looking at a couple harbors and marinas before finding a campground for only ten bucks a night right in the middle of the park. While setting up the tent, we decided it would be a good idea to move our 4" bed mattress into the tent on top of our sleeping pads. Best idea ever, by the way.
Once finished we took the bikes down and decided to bike along the Park Loop route and see what we could. The first couple miles we rode were amazing rolling hills, no cars and beautiful views at the top of each of the hills. We headed towards Seal Harbor and ended up getting caught in a freak hailstorm on our way down a hill into town. With the hail stinging our faces we decided to take refuge behind a small building near the marina. Once the hail subsided we rode back up to our campground where we put together a big fire and a tasty meal before attempting to watch the new Karate Kid movie, damn cold weather and computer batteries. Yeah I know what some of you are thinking - "Camping, 4" mattress, movies? Really roughing it are ya?" but to those who are thinking that must know that I don't think of car camping as camping and thus take the creature comforts for granted in a campground.

This morning we awoke to cold air and blue skies. We walked down to the Atlantic Ocean to take in the morning sun. After that I needed to get an attitude adjustment before starting the day (5 weeks in a car, head cold, ligament issues in both my shoulder and ankle, and well 5 weeks in a car it was bound to happen) but I feel a ton better now that we spent most of the day outside in this beautiful area so back to that. We spent the morning exploring the park making it to the top of Cadillac Mountain (highest point on the Atlantic Coast), enjoying the sun and sand at Sandy Beach and a wonderful mussel walk along a spit in Bar Harbor at low tide. Yes, we did gather us some 15 or so mussels from the ocean and are going to steam them tonight in a coconut curry sauce, be jealous. More adventures to come tomorrow and the next day, and the next day. So, stay tuned.
Sea Gull FIGHT. Michael Vick should have chosen this sport - nobody would have cared.
