Sorry if you find the chewy texture and delicious salty ocean taste of mussels too much to handle... if that is the case then you should probably skip over this post and possibly think of something to do to regain your awesomeness.
BUT for all of you that love mussels, read on...
Last night we made mussels for the first time. We hand picked these mussels just a few hours before we put them in tin foil with water to steam them over the campfire. The shells started to open up and the meat inside was a cooking. After trying a few of the mussels we decided they weren't cooked enough so we put them on top of the campfire grill without the foil or water. This did the trick and gave them an amazing smokey flavor which I've never had before in a mussel. To go along with our mussels we boiled some fettuccine and tossed in some coconut milk, half and half, Parmesan cheese, onion, garlic, spinach, and lots of Thai curry powder. It was delicious and most definitely the most gourmet meal I've ever had while camping. Give it a try at home. If you don't want to spend the money on mussels just add more veggies!
